BoxRank rankings are built on verified bout results. Every score is traceable to the bouts that produced it, and every ranking updates automatically when results are recorded.
BoxRank gives athletes, coaches, and event managers a single trusted source: rankings calculated from verified results, visible to everyone in the sport.
Rankings are only as good as the results that feed them. Every event manager who records results on BoxRank makes the whole system more accurate for every athlete in it.
Each athlete's ranking is calculated from four factors. Together they reflect readiness and experience. Not just wins and losses.
Points earned from wins, losses, and result type across verified bouts. The foundation of every ranking.
Points are multiplied by the tier of event. National results carry more weight than regional or club-level bouts.
Career points reflect your full record and never decay. A separate signal from season form for long-term standing.
Different result types earn different points. A knockout or RSC earns more than a decision win. It reflects the nature of the result, not just the outcome.
| Result type | Points (winner) | Points (loser) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| KO | 6 pts | 1 pt | Knockout |
| TKO / RSC | 6 pts | 1 pt | Technical knockout or referee stopped contest |
| Retirement | 6 pts | 1 pt | Opponent retires during the bout |
| Unanimous Decision | 6 pts | 1 pt | All judges agree on winner |
| Majority Decision | 5 pts | 1 pt | Majority of judges agree on winner |
| Split Decision | 5 pts | 1 pt | Judges split, winner by margin |
| Walkover | 3 pts | 0 pts | Opponent unable to compete |
| Disqualification | 3 pts | 0 pts | Opponent disqualified |
| No Contest | 0 pts | 0 pts | Bout declared void |
| Participation | 1 pt | 1 pt | Awarded for competing, regardless of result |
These values are set by your governing body and may be updated each season.
Not all events carry the same weight. Competing at a national championship is worth more than a regional open. The event multiplier reflects that.
| Event tier | Multiplier | Champion bonus | Runner-up bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nationals | 3 × | + 50 pts | + 10 pts |
| Regional | 2 × | + 20 pts | + 5 pts |
| Invitational / open | 1 × | - | - |
| Club event | 1 × | - | - |
Every athlete has two running totals: season points and career points. They're shown separately on every athlete profile and used for different purposes.
| Season calendar | Notes |
|---|---|
| 16 Apr 26 - 15 Apr 27 | Season active. Points accumulate from every recorded bout. |
| March | Regionals. Regional tournaments. Results count toward the current season. |
| Early April | Nationals. Season closes after the final day of the National Tournament. |
| Day after | New season. Any bouts from this point count toward the next season. |
The season is named for the year Nationals are held. Events leading into April 2027 Nationals are part of the 2027 season, which may also be referred to as 2026–2027.
| How the season resets | Notes |
|---|---|
| 1st place nationals (per division) | 10 pts. Returning athletes only. |
| 2nd place nationals (per division) | 5 pts. Returning athletes only. |
| 3rd & 4th place nationals (per division) | 2 pts. Returning athletes only. |
| All other athletes | 0 pts. Season starts fresh. |
Career points accumulate across every season without any reset or decay. They reflect an athlete's full history in the sport. Useful for understanding experience and longevity alongside current form.
Why two numbers? Season points reflect current form. Useful for matchmaking and national selection. Career points reflect the full picture. Useful for coaches, commentators, and long-term athlete profiles.
Two identical wins on the scorecard. Where the bout sits, and who it's against, changes what it's worth. The maths is deliberately simple:
Points for a bout = (base result points × stage multiplier) + participation point
Using current federation values, effective 3 September 2026.
You win by unanimous decision at a club interclub, against a fellow newcomer.
You win by unanimous decision in the Nationals final, against the top-ranked opponent.
Rankings are calculated within weight class. Your ranking is specific to where you compete.
| Moving divisions | Notes |
|---|---|
| 1 division up or down | You keep the points earned in your previous division. |
| More than 1 division up or down | You lose the points earned in your previous division. |
Athletes assigned male at birth and athletes assigned female at birth are never matched against each other. This is a firm safety rule, consistent with World Boxing guidelines and enforced by the platform.
Every ranking on BoxRank is traceable. On any athlete's profile you can see the bouts that built their score, the points each result earned, and the formula behind each calculation.
Rankings update automatically when results are recorded after an event. Nothing is adjusted manually. The system runs the same formula for every athlete.
